Define what a replacement must achieve
Record the required wear behaviour, corrosion exposure, dimensional allowance, surface finish and inspection criteria. Keep those acceptance requirements consistent when comparing suppliers.
Check the change in manufacturing route
A replacement may change preparation, masking, deposition, final finishing or repair practice. Ask what trials and customer approvals are needed before changing a production specification.
Compare environmental performance with data
Material hazards, emissions, wastewater, solid waste, energy, service life and rework all matter. A chromium-free process does not demonstrate zero chemical hazards or a lower carbon footprint by itself.
Keep a practical decision record
Compare the complete cost and qualification evidence, not only the coating price. Separate industry alternatives from confirmed DVS services; ask about the actual offered process before sending a production order.
